Dons wins Supernova and will represent Latvia at Eurovision 2024!

Tonight Latvia decided their representative for the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest, and after the jury & televote had their say, we have a winner! Singer-songwriter Dons, one of the most accomplished Latvian musicians, has won Supernova and receives the ticket to wave the Latvian flag in Malmö, Sweden this May with his entry “Hollow”.  Check out his song here:

Dons first to fame back in the early 2000s when he appeared on national talent show Talantu Fabrika. Since then he has released a staggering nine albums, winning over a dozen awards and accolades, and has even been a judge twice previously (2015, 2017) in Supernova! As a contestant, 2024 marks third time lucky for Dons as he competed previously in the Latvian selection show back in 2010 and 2014. Both times, he placed second narrowly behind the winner and missed his opportunity to perform on the big Eurovision stage.

Latvia haven’t been very successful at Eurovision recently. Despite winning all the way back in 2002 with Marie N, they have had a jaded history since then. Latvia have one of the worst qualification records and current qualification streaks – having not appeared in the final of the contest since Justs in 2016 with “Heartbeat”! That’s almost 10 contests without a qualifier to the finalist. Sudden Lights came very close last year with their 11th place finish in Liverpool’s semi final one, narrowly missing out on qualifying by only 3 heart-breaking points.

Dons will perform in the second half of the second semi final on May 9th 2024, with the draw to be announced later in the year.
