Supernova 2020 – Meet The Finalists

Latvia’s selection process, Supernova, began with 126 songs being submitted to the broadcaster, LTV. Last week these were whittled down to just 26, and the audition clips were shared on the Supernova Youtube channel. Following a further internal process, LTV have now confirmed the final nine acts who will compete in the live show on February 8th to become the successors of Carousel and fly the Latvian flag in Rotterdam.

The decision was taken by a panel of experts from the music industry, including representatives from record labels, music management, music journalism, communications and representatives from LTV.

It had been expected that eight acts would make the final shortlist, however during the jury’s discussions, they decided to take a total of nine songs through to the live show. They are as follows (you can view their audition clips by clicking each link):

Most notable in their absence from this final shortlist is Markus Riva. His song ‘Impossible’ has not been chosen to proceed to this next stage despite being one of the early favourites to represent Latvia. Markus finished as runner up to Carousel in 2019, and there is a sense that one day he will represent Latvia at Eurovision, but the jury did not consider this specific performance and song to be the right choice this year.

We expect more details about the live show to follow in the coming days, including the confirmation of the hosts and the jury, and how the final decision will be made. Our team will of course be in Riga for the final to bring you the very best coverage of Supernova 2020.
