Dansk Melodi Grand Prix to select Danish entrant for Eurovision 2021!

Danish broadcaster DR has revealed their decision to organize Dansk Melodi Grand Prix as national selection for their entry at Eurovision 2021 in addition to that it was announced that Ben & Tan haven’t got a secured place in the national final next year.

After COVID 19 pandemic is over, we will start to plan how will Dansk Melody Grand Prix look like next year. We choose to see the EBU show Eurovision: “Europe Shine A Light” as the end of this year’s Eurovision season and we will start on a fresh one from next year. I understand well if it’s been a mixed game for Ben & Tan and the people behind ‘Yes’. I’m glad that with this new program by EBU we will bring the song to life throughout Europe and get Ben & Tan out to viewers and fans all across Europe.

Regarding the decision made by DR member of the duo, Tanne Balcells said: “The alternative show sounds like a good idea. It is a great initiative that brings us all together – now that we can not be together in a hall. That way, it doesn’t feel like the show is 100% cancelled anyway.” She is also very pleased with the fact that in the programme Eurovision: “Europe Shine A Light” viewers all across Europe will now have the opportunity to hear their song “Yes” and adds that was the goal they had with participation at Dansk Melodi Grand Prix even though they would’ve done some things differently at the Eurovision stage. It is important to her that the song gets the recognition it deserves. When she was asked how would she feel if the song would be performed again next year Tan replied that the momentum built up with the song chosen this year won’t be present if it happens in a year.

They performed at the empty arena as Danish broadcaster has decided to organise their national selection without audience due to the spread of COVID 19 – more about it here.

Although Ben & Tan are welcomed to take part at Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2021 with a new song, probably the duo won’t be coming back. Regarding that offer made by DR Tan said: “I feel we would take the place of someone else. After all, we have tried to be part of the show. It must be someone else’s trip next year. That is fair. You also run the risk of losing when you compete again, and that’s what people remember. So we would rather leave it with this victory and focus on our music.
