Jamala announced as guest star in the German and Romanian national final!

The winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, Jamala, was announced as a guest star in both the German national final “Germany 12 Points” this Friday and the final of Romania’s “Selecția Națională” one day later on Saturday evening. Jamala won the contest in Stockholm with her self-written song about the history of her ancestors, especially her great grandmother, who was deported from Crimea through Josef Stalin.

The message of this song seems more current than ever! Jamala has just fled Ukraine with her children, due to the war in her country. They safely made it to the Romanian border and are now staying in Istanbul. Her husband is still in Ukraine.

NDR announced that Jamala will perform her Eurovision winning song “1944” and speak with the host, Barbara Schöneberger, about her flight because of the invasion of Russian troops in her country. She will therefore join Conchita and some other familiar Eurovision names as a guest star on the show! TVR, the Romanian broadcaster, will welcome Jamala one day later in their grand final.

We hope that Jamala, her family and everybody, who is currently in Ukraine, will be safe!

If you want to find out what Jamala has to say about the current situation, watch the German national final on March 4th 2022 at 21:00 CET and the Romanian national final on March 5th at 20:00 CET. You can also follow our live blogs for both shows and vote in our polls below!
