Icelandic National Broadcaser, RÚV plans to send their delegation to Paris to watch Junior Eurovision 2021.

In April we informed you that Iceland won’t be making their Junior Eurovision debut this year and a few weeks ago we let you know that they plan to broadcast the contest. In the short interview with Eurofestivales, Rúnar Freyr (Director of Söngvakeppnin and Head of Press of the Icelandic delegation) revealed their plans for Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021. Iceland will be sending the two members of their staff to attend this years show to get to know the production and how things work.

After being asked if this years broadcast of Junior Eurovision is a test to see the audience reaction to it Rúnar answered the following:

Yes, it is. But there are a lot of things we have to take into account when deciding whether we’d like to participate as well. For a small broadcasting service like RÚV, it’s a big decision, budget and staffing. The singing competitions for kids are popular in Iceland, as well as in any children’s culture, so we really want to see if we want to and can participate. We are always looking for good family material for our audience.

He added that part of the decision will be based on that but there are also other factors which they will consider before making the decision of the Icelandic participation at the future editions of Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

They will be broadcasting at 19.45 Icelandic time which is just a few hours after the show itself. Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021 is going to take place on 19th of December at La Seine Musicale. The hosts of it are Élodie Gossuin, Olivier Minne and Carla while DJ duo Ofenbach and Barbara Pravi will be performing. Common song “Imagine” got released a few weeks ago. The total of 19 countries compete:

Iceland made their Eurovision debut back in 1986 and until this day that was the only Eurovision related contest in which they take part. Since then they only missed the show on two occasions in 1998 and 2002. Their best placement is second place in 1999 with “All Out of Luck” by Selma and in 2009 with “Is It True?” by Yohanna.
